And then all hell broke loose on my laptop.

The Dock crashed, and there were open apps that didn’t show in the Dock (or the cmd-tab thing), and console.log was getting an extra two or three lines with every mouse click I made, in any app.

All window rendering was also shot to hell. Things got crazy.

find(1)

I was just faced with a problem. Over time, I had accumulated about 2000 directories called “.AppleDouble”, and wanted rid of them and all the items they contained. Thing is, they were scattered all over my hard disk and I couldn’t be bothered to navigate to each one and delete it.

Spent about 10 minutes reading the manpage for find(1), and eventually found that I could write this tiny line to do the entire job for me…

find /storage1 -type d -name .AppleDouble -exec rm -rfv {} \;

Wow. Just… wow.

Well shit. It seems like iPhoto ate a ton of my photos (filesize = 0kb) a while back (2006-11-08 @ 5:33am, to be exact) and I didn’t notice.

Not happy.

Hooray for having them on Flickr, and hooray for someone having already written an app to leech an account’s photos. Retagging them all in iPhoto is going to be horrible though.

Update: Flickrdown made the tagging job a lot less stressful.

Update 2: 316 photos got damaged. Fun.
