Dear Lazyweb,
What are the positive and negative points of implementing SPF in a virtual hosting environment?
Specifically, I’m concerned about when users forced to use third party SMTP servers, rather than our own. Is it a good idea, or is it something to be kept clear of?

Yeah impliment it or you’ll only get a mass of mail rejected spam, well you will anyway but you won’t get anyone bitching their email is bouncing because they will instead get an error saying they can’t send. Moreover open mail relays get quickly abused then just as quick blacklisted.
The policy really comes into its own on mail recieving servers as it can be used to filter a lot of spam.
It’s a closed mail relay already, but we’re looking to reduce the mail rejected spam. How would SPF be implemented while still allowing users to use any third party SMTP server that they choose?
